Stay Safe and
Enjoy your Winter Trip
Crisp and clear winter air and a beautiful starry night sky are some of the highlights of a trip during the winter season in Japan, but there are also a few precautions to take.
Please note these key points to help you make the most of your winter stay here safely.
✅ Check Here First
If you are driving to a mountainous location, install winter tires or snow chains. We also strongly recommend driving a vehicle with four-wheel drive.
For safety, we request that you use the shovels and snow brushes provided in each room to clear snow around the stairs, the wood deck, and around your parked car.
Use of the fire pit may be suspended if it becomes difficult to access due to snowfall.
To prevent pipes from freezing at mountainous locations, keep the bathtub filled with water and do not turn off the hot-water controller during your stay.
🚗 Access during Winter
Mountain roads can become covered in snow and/or ice. If you are driving your own vehicle, you must install winter tires or snow chains. We also highly recommend using a four-wheel-drive car for increased safety.
If your car gets stuck in the snow on the property, please place the ladder boards (available at the location's shared facilities) under your tires and gently move the vehicle forward and backward.
If you cannot resolve the issue on your own, contact the roadside assistance provided by your auto insurance company, or call JAF at +81-0570-00-8139.
⛄️ Snow Removal
For snowfall over 10 cm, snow removal work starts early in the morning. Be aware that you may hear the sound of snow blowers and other equipment during this time. Snow removal is usually finished by 10 am. (Schedule may vary depending on snowfall.)
Roads around the property are cleared by contractors arranged by local municipalities, while snow removal on the internal roads, parking areas, pathways to each cabin, and around the management building is handled by SANU’s snow-removal partners.
For the stairs, the wood deck, and the area around your car, please use the shovels and snow brushes provided in your room to clear the snow yourself.
🔥 Fire Pit Use Suspension
The area around the fire pit and the path leading to it are not cleared of snow. Depending on snowfall, access to the fire pit may become difficult, and its use may be suspended.
At Yatsugatake 2nd, fire use is suspended during the winter season (December 1 through April 30) as a precaution against wildfires.
🚰 Preventing Pipe Freezing
At locations where temperatures drop below freezing (0°C), heating cables are wrapped around the water pipes to prevent freezing and bursting.
However, freezing can still occur, so please follow the points below.
Bathroom
To prevent freezing, the water in the pipes running from the outdoor water heater to the bathtub is automatically circulated. Keep the bathtub filled with water, and do not turn off the hot-water controller during your stay.
Kitchen
When the room temperature drops below 10°C, the air conditioner will automatically switch to heating mode to protect the kitchen pipes from freezing. Please do not unplug the IoT device and temperature/humidity sensor that controls the air conditioner.
Sauna cold plunge
A small amount of water is kept running continuously to prevent the pipes from freezing. Although the faucet handle has been removed, please do not attempt to make the water stop.
